The aim of the program is to make the underprivileged Foundation Phase students - students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 - in the government-run Diepsloot Combined School in Diepsloot, northern Johannesburg, South Africa, confident in the English language. Poor knowledge of English will otherwise keep the students from realizing their full potential later in life.
Here is what you can do to help if you reside in Johannesburg, South Africa:
- We are in constant need of volunteers to help teach English every Monday for a few hours. Not being a native speaker is no obstacle to helping out the class' head teacher.
- We are always on the lookout for used books that can be incorporated in the school library, as well as clothes, shoes, uniforms and food. These items will be divided amongst the needy students and their families.
- You can share your expertise in such fields as fundraising, accounting, computers, nursing, webdesing, etc.
Here is what you can do from outside of South Africa:
- You can donate funds to our worthwhile endeavors, such as the purchase of new Readers, a graduation for the students, health checks, materials for mending torn uniforms, school supplies, etc.
Volunteer! Come join a great group of people, expats and locals!
Donate goods or funds!
Help us educate the children of Diepsloot!

Is it possible to set up a paypal button to help us donate funds?
We are working on getting pay pal set up. Unfortunately at the moment we still don't have our official certificate (it was mailed 9 Sept, but there was a postal strike...) and without we cannot open a bank account.
Shouldn't be too long, so keep checking.
Thanks!
My Name is Marianna I moved from the UK to South Africa 9 weeks ago with my husband and 2 kids, we are here for a 2 year period due to my husbands work commitments.
While my husbands at work and the kids are at school i really wanted to do something worthwhile and volunteer, by chance i met one of the organisers of Edu Fun and she mentioned what they did, so i jumped at the chance to go and have a look and see what i thought! Im so glad i did what a great bunch of Volunteers and what lovely kids who appreciate all we are doing. Im so very glad to be part of Edu Fun and will continue to be part and hopefully help these kids have a better start in life.
Hi Marianna,
It does feel great making a difference, and volunteering your time for something worthwhile, doesn't it.
Thank you so much for your commitment. It's great having you around!
